Vermont Farm & Forest Conservation, a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization, began as a commitment to preserving and encouraging the widespread education and understanding around sustainable forest farming and permaculture practices , as well as a concerted effort to maintain the final frontier of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. This geographic area of Vermont is special as it has maintained and preserved many farmlands and has a continued a commitment to protecting the forests that serve as home to the diverse flora and fauna that call the NEK home.
At VFAFC, we beleive in the strong tenants of permacultre and forest farming. These include alley cropping; silvo pasture and animal husbandry practices that are humane. Our commitment to learning and providing needed resources around soil integrity practices such as Biochar as well as symbiotic relationships between animals and the land are our primary focus.
Silvo Pasture is a practice where by trees still remain in pasture lands for animals to receive refuge from the sun; give animals greater stimulation with a diverse landscape and provide nourishment to the land in the way of manure.
